Empirical support for experiential-humanistic psychotherapies: state of the art and tasks for the future

ARTICLELietaer, Germain - 41–1 (2003)

SUMMARY

A survey of outcome and process research shows that experiential-humanistic psychotherapies have a sound and promising research base. The author further reflects on the possibilities and limits of different research avenues: theoretical and clinical studies, randomized clinical trial, open clinical trial, multiple case design and intensive process research. He makes a plea in favour of a pluralistic research methodology in which also person-centered orientations can feel at home, and for a balanced weighing of findings from process as well as outcome studies when evaluating the effectiveness of therapy approaches.
