A biography of humanity

ARTICLEVan Bendegem, Jean Paul, & Coessens, Kathleen - 44–1 (2006)

SUMMARY

In this paper the authors want to address the issue of the confrontation between, on the one hand, the description of a human being through the appropriate sciences (psychology, sociology, economy, ...) and, on the other hand, the multiple ways wherein a human being experiences his or her life and represents that very life through story telling and narratives. At first sight both approaches seem mutually exclusive if not antagonistic; however, the authors want to defend the thesis that, quite on the contrary, many complementarities exist or can be constructed that need to be explored
