In this paper we are searching for a theory that will make it possible to work with sex offenders from a client-centered perspective. Starting from the interaction between the offender and his victim, we try to capture the meaning of the concepts 'border' and 'identity'. Research on attachment theory supports our hypothesis that offenders sometimes cannot make the distinction between their own needs or experiences, and those of others. The sex offence itself is seen as a symptom of a failing border of allocation and an imbalance in the strife for autonomy and/or relatedness.
