The author describes how trauma recovery can be part of a long-term individual therapy. When one or more traumatic experiences are blocking the therapy, it is possible to implement an episode of trauma treatment in therapy. This will be described in the following case.
In this case the author uses EMDR in treating post-traumatic stress disorder.
The first part of the article is a description of the most important aspects of PTSD and EMDR treatment. In the second part a parallel will be made between client-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy and trauma treatment with EMDR. This latter part of the article contains a case study about Jos, an eleven year old boy whose mother has been burned by an accident with burning oil.
