In order to keep offering high quality psychotherapy, it is necessary to be content at the workplace. The contentment of the psychotherapist depends on the level of care by his (work)environment as well as on his ability for self-care. Self-care ability in this context does not mean the ability to fulfill one’s own needs, but the ability to send out signals for the environment to respond to those needs. The ability to care, and thus ásk for care for oneself is connected with someone’s personal history and weak spots in fulfilling the basic needs.
All this will be developed according to A. Pesso’s theory on basic needs, in which five basic developmental needs are described: place, nurture, support, protection, and limits.
The tPeP (Journal Person-centered experiential Psychotherapy) is the scientific journal for Dutch and Flemish psychotherapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists, that work from, or are interested in a client-centered perspective.
