In this essay we look at group therapy from an interactional perspective. We found inspiration in client-centered therapy, and Yalom. The approach we take departs mainly from the tension that exists between autonomy and connectedness. We will treat some interactional phenomenona, followed by suggestions for the group therapist: focal conflict, discussing the here and now, dealing with conflict, the scapegoat, resistance. The essay closes with a plea for the encounter in group therapy.
