Snoezelen is a neologism; it is compounded from ‘snuffelen’ and ‘doezelen’ (respectively to sniff/snuffle and to doze/snooze). Snoezelen promotes the relational dynamics in three phenomenological directions by creating openness to the world, oneself and others. Snoezelen sets up a concrete framework that allows for intensive experimentation with one’s own personal capacities within these three dimensions. This experiential framework is very important in the concept of snoezelen. The therapist should follow the client’s budding process under the assumption that everyone develops his own personal pace from inner wisdom. This psychical-physical approach is applied according to the principles of non-directivity and client-centered therapy.
The tPeP (Journal Person-centered experiential Psychotherapy) is the scientific journal for Dutch and Flemish psychotherapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists, that work from, or are interested in a client-centered perspective.
