This article defends the position that a client-centered approach may be especially fit to successfully
shape the form and content of a psychotherapeutic treatment aimed at people from
other than western cultures. The author makes plausible that a person-centered approach
geared toward the client-centered core conditions will connect better with non-western cultures
than most of the current therapeutic methods that are characterized by their focus on
exerting direct influence. A treatment that is guided by the client will minimize the risk that
the therapist, willingly or unwillingly, forces his or her own cultural certitudes onto the client.
