In client-centered therapy, the tendency toward self-actualization does not take up as central
a position as it could, and in my opinion should. Earlier (2009) I proposed to further define
this tendency by using Grawe’s (1998, 2004) notions of basic psychological needs and consistency
regulation. The current article elaborates the tendency toward self-actualization in
this proposed direction, resulting in a much clearer theoretical concept with direct consequences
for psychotherapy practice.
