In psychotherapy, an impasse may arise when a patient knows important deficits in psychosocial
functioning that have not been identified at the start of the treatment. The developmental
profile is an apt method to detect those deficits and map out the limits and possibilities
to profit from treatment. After discussing the developmental profile, applying this
method will be elucidated in two case histories.
