Attachment and letting go reside at the core of our therapeutic work, and draw attention to
the specific character of the therapeutic relation. This article discusses the typical characteristics
of the therapeutic relationship by focusing on the various functions that the therapist
fulfills in the relation with his client, under the motto of ‘being there for the other’. Rogers’
ideas on the therapeutic relationship will be followed while looking critically at current views
on meeting at relational depth.
