Applying attachment and letting go in the client-centered approach

ARTICLELietaer, Germain - 50–3 (2012)

SUMMARY

This article offers an overview of the development of client-centered thinking over the past
30 years (around 1983 till now) in the Netherlands and Flanders, in which a growing body
of knowledge was fed from various sub-orientations. Notwithstanding this healthy development,
ground has been lost in the academic world because of the reigning positivistic
zeitgeist over the past decades. Outside of the academic world however, and modestly within,
there still remains some development and further integration of different therapeutic
approaches. And finally, some suggestions are offered to help anchor client-centered thinking
in the future.
