Working with attachment: Emotional implications for the therapist

ARTICLEHafkenscheid, Anton - 50–3 (2012)

SUMMARY

Attachment theory is discussed along the lines of the influential two-dimensional categorization
by Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991). Next to a safe attachment style, these authors
distinguish three unsafe ones. Each of these three unsafe attachment styles can confront the
therapist with specific emotional problems. These problems are discussed, together with the
more general emotional implications of working with attachment issues.
