This reflection takes a closer look at the narrative reconstruction of the self-image in life stories, and the potential contribution of narrative psychotherapy. First, aspects of narrative thinking are examined, after which attention is given to modern views on the definition of the self, followed by a philosophical analysis of language, meaning, and interpretation, the core of narrative psychotherapy. Next, the practice of narrative counseling will take center stage with the stories that clients tell about themselves.
The tPeP (Journal Person-centered experiential Psychotherapy) is the scientific journal for Dutch and Flemish psychotherapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists, that work from, or are interested in a client-centered perspective.
