The theoretical roots of mindfulness-training can be found in Eastern thinking, the same school of thought that Carl Rogers frequently claimed to be influenced by. In this paper we will explore the similarities and differences between relevant theoretical concepts of mindfulness-training and client-centered psychotherapy.
Mindfulness-training is made operational through the method of Sensory Awareness. We describe this method after defining mindfulness. Next we present recent research on the effectiveness of Sensory Awareness. Finally we contemplate whether Sensory Awareness could have a function within client-centered psychotherapy.
The tPeP (Journal Person-centered experiential Psychotherapy) is the scientific journal for Dutch and Flemish psychotherapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists, that work from, or are interested in a client-centered perspective.
