Beyond autonomy; from individual selfdetermination to an situated authenticity

REFLECTIONSnijder-van den Eerenbeemt, Annemarie - 40–3 (2002)

SUMMARY

In this essay I will try to put the concept autonomy as we use it in the practice of the client-centered psychotherapy more into his social context.
By doing so a conceptual analysis of the notion autonomy is made, followed by putting this in his historical context and by looking in what way the postmodern philosofical concepts of autonomy can be used in the psychotherapeutic theories.
