In this paper, the clinical applications of attachment theory are discussed. With the `move to the representational level' attachment theory evolved into a clinically relevant paradigm. The Adult Attachment Interview (Main et al.) has been applied in various clinical settings, and shows great promise for use as an anamnestic device, and as a validated outcome measure for therapy effectiveness. Furthermore, preventive and therapeutic interventions may profit from an assignment of clients to type of therapy or intervention on the basis of their attachment representation.
