Person-centered care for psychotic people: overcoming the supposed opposition between a society-oriented versus a process-oriented perspective

ARTICLEVan Werde, Dion - 38–4 (2000)

SUMMARY

The author calls against reductionistic care: neither a narrow complaint/symptom/societal demands centeredness, neither a purely process/experiential approach can saveguard the psychological freedom of the individual. A 'person-centered' one can.
An interaction, based on dr. Prouty 's Pre-Therapy, that took place between a nurse and an admitted psychotic person illustrates the viewpoint taken. Staying with the concrete seems to be the crux of this kind of work.
