This article treats the development in the thinking on empathy within client-centered therapy. Simultaneously with the genesis of various sub-currents, and influenced by the evolution towards differentiation of the Rogerian conditions in functions of the problems in the client, Roger's original basic attitude on empathy was expanded upon. The concept of empathy evolved from a receptive, accepting and confirming listening attitude to a dialogue that facilitates experience and relations.
